Fluorite on Celestine
White Rock Quarry, Clay Center, Ottawa Co., Ohio, USA
17.8 cm tall x 24 cm wide
The White Rock Quarry opened in the late 1800s, but miners have been collecting fluorite there since at least the 1930s. Fluorites of unique brown “root beer” coloration found on white celestine from the White Rock Quarry are unique in the world. They are immediately identifiable and have become a classic in the mineral kingdom.
This fluorite is among the largest and most spectacular ever found at this locality. It is considered to be the most significant example.
