Millennium Pocket, Sweet Home Mine, Alma, Park Co., Colorado, USA
6 cm tall x 13 cm wide
The legendary Sweet Home Mine has produced the most distinguished rhodochrosite ever found on the North American continent. It is considered among the best in the world. This specimen comes from a pocket found in 2000 in an area of the mine known as the “Fluorite Raise.” This pocket is famous for the intensity of color, size, and quality of the rhodochrosite.
This piece is among the finest from the Millennium Pocket: isolated rhombohedral crystals of vivid red rhodochrosite on top of sharp, black tetrahedrite and needle-like, clear quartz crystals.
