Calcite on Amethyst with Chalcopyrite
Artigas, Artigas Department, Uruguay
16 cm tall x 26.8 cm wide
Calcite forming with amethyst is not an uncommon occurrence, however, a perfect transparent amber calcite crystal of the finest quality isolated at the center of concord grape colored amethyst is extraordinarily rare. Taking the piece to the next level are the subtle shimmering golden crystals of chalcopyrite which have gently fallen upon the calcite like glitter. The edges of the matrix exhibit a band of unpolished green and white agate. Common begets uncommon.
When excellence appears, even in the most common of species, the specimen transcends into something far greater than its component parts. This piece exhibits this concept unreservedly.
