Opal
Tsehay Mewcha, Wegeltena, Delanta Woreda, South Wollo Zone, Amhara Region, Ethiopia
11.2 cm tall x 7.2 cm wide
This opal captures all of the spectacular iridescent colors that is synonymous with opal, and in addition it exhibits a very rare feature; an opal within an opal. The inner multicolored opal seemingly floats within the amber colored jelly-like outer opal. Only a very few of this type are known and most have been found in Ethiopia. The two opals in this exhibition are among the finest examples of precious opals for specimen collectors.
This specimen was featured in our Candy exhibition.
