This famous unique cave of rhodochrosite stalactites was discovered in 1986 and was quickly mined out, cut, and polished. These stalactite formations were never found again. This spectacular slice comes from what is considered the single finest, largest, and most well-preserved section removed.
There are two additional known examples that were sliced from this large stalactite. One resides in the Museum National D’Histoire Naturelle in Paris, in the TRÉSORS DE LA TERRE exhibit. The other can be seen on display at The Irénée du Pont Mineral Collection at the University of Delaware Mineralogical Museum.
