Rhodonite
Morro da Mina mine, Conselheiro Lafaiete, Minas Gerais, Brazil
5.6 cm tall x 8.1 cm wide
The finest rhodonites in the world are now found in Brazil. They possess the rich ruby red color in large transparent crystals. Prior to this discovery, Australia was considered the premier locality for the species. The Brazilian specimens have redefined rhodonite both in size and quality. This specimen is one of only a handful that are large perfect crystals growing from a rock matrix.
